EMBROIDERY
Embroidery is done for making a fabric beautiful with colorful designs with the help of needle and threads. It may be used to embellish almost everything, from the smallest handkerchief to big home furnishing like even curtains or bed covers. Embroidery can also be done with other materials, such as pearls, beads, quills, sequins, shells, precious and semi-precious stones, seeds, etc.
MATERIALS
Fabric - preferably something not stretchy. Cotton works perfectly. In this tutorial, I am using unbleached muslin which is a loosely-woven cotton fabric.Embroidery hoop - Wood or plastic is fine. I prefer the plastic ones as the wooden ones tend to break easily. Plastic hoops are more expensive, but I've found them to be worth the extra money.Embroidery floss - Floss is made up of six strands of thread. You can separate the strands if you'd like. Fewer strands make thinner stitches. I find six stands stitches to be kind of wide, so I use four. It's a personal preference thing. Also, the fewer strands you use, the easier it is to thread your needle.A needle - Trying to use a smaller needle, so that you don't make big holes in your fabric. However, make sure that you get a needle with an eye big large enough to thread your floss.Scissors - So you can cut your thread. :PPatience - Everyone messes stuff up. If you mess up, just start over. Yeah, it's an art form, but it's also a learning process.
RUNNING STITCH
The running stitch or straight stitch is the basic stitch in hand-sewing and embroidery, on which all other forms of sewing are based. The stitch is worked by passing the needle in and out of the fabric. The needle is always pushed through both layers of cloth starting on the side it is on and ending on the other side.
LACED RUNNING STITCH
The laced running stitch is an easy variation on running stitch. it is also referred as threaded running stitch. By lacing a second thread through the basic running stitch, you create a wavy line that is perfect for both your embroidering projects and embellishing garments.
PEKINESE STITCH
The Pekinese stitch is a decorative technique made up of two elements that are combined in order to create a looped effect. It is also known as the interlaced back stitch, but also sometimes as blind stitch.
CABLE STITCH
The Cable Stitch is a perfect embroidery stitch for outline and for filling smaller spaces. It is also known as the side-to-side stem stitch. It creates a nice, thick outline stitch. This stitch is quick and easy, perfect for trimming a garment, or outlining major shapes in an embroidery project.
CHAIN STITCH
This is the basic and simplest of the chain stitch family. It gives a chain like an appearance or, like petals lined up one after the other. The chain stitch is one of the most important stitches in embroidery. It is a looped stitch that can be worked along a curved or straight line. It is a stitch you will use all of the time. Once you learn the basic chain stitch, you can begin to explore variations of the stitch.
